1) How much does the WFX-FIT Test cost?
  • Prices can vary depending on location/date and or number of participants.
  • The majority of our test sessions will charge $165.00 per person. ($65.00 deposit + $100.00 test fee balance)
  • Private Testing is available upon request, in the Sudbury region, when the regular test schedule has concluded at a fee of $265.00 per person

2) When and where can I attempt the WFX-FIT Test?
  • A schedule is posted on both the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) web site and our own registration web site by mid-October for the following spring test season. Additional dates will/may be added as the testing season progresses based on demand.
  • We strongly recommend early registration as many of our test dates are fully booked and time slots are assigned on a first registered first booked basis.

3) How do I register for my WFX-FIT Test?
  • CWF-Fitness Testing requires all of their test participants to register on-line using our Registration web page.
  • For individuals that may receive funding for their test, you or your funding agency will still be required to submit on-line with all of their required contact information.
  • If you experience difficulties with the registration process, please send us an email (wildlandwfx@gmail.com) and a representative will be happy to assist you.
  • CWF-Fitness Testing requires 14 days advanced notice, physicians verification must be received a minimum of 72 hours prior to your test date for cancellation. Refunds will not include your non-refundable deposit

4) Who can administer the WFX-FIT Test in Ontario?
  • Only an OMNR/CIFFC accredited agency/individual employing a CEP (Certified Exercise Physiologist) that must be present at the test site is able to sign the WFX-FIT Results Recording Form.

5) What is considered a PASS for the WFX-FIT Test?
  • Ontario Performance Standard – 17 minutes & 15 seconds
  • National Exchange Fitness Standard – 14 minutes & 30 seconds
  • Alberta Performance Stardard- 14 minutes & 30 seconds

6) What’s the difference between the National Exchange Fitness Standard versus the Provincial Jurisdictional Performance Standard?
  • WFX-FIT is completed as a timed circuit.
  • Starting in 2012, Ontario FireRangers will be required to complete the circuit in 17 minutes and 15 seconds.
  • In order to qualify for national export, Ontario FireRangers will be required to meet the National Exchange Standard of 14 minutes and 30 seconds.

7) What do I need to bring to the test?
  • You must bring a piece of Photo Identification
  • If you are being tested indoors, participants must bring clean, appropriate footwear (I.e., running shoes with a good tread/grip) and comfortable exercise attire.
  • You will not be able to enter the test area wearing outdoor footwear
  • Participants should refrain from smoking for two hours prior and refrain from caffeine or energy drinks or alcoholic beverages prior to the test
  • Do not exercise vigorously in the 24 hours prior to the test
  • Arrive at least 20 minutes before your appointment

8) Am I able to attend a test session offered by another province?
  • Ontario Firerangers should always contact their supervisor prior to attempting the WFX-FIT in another province.
  • CWF-Fitness Testing will be offering exclusive test sessions for individuals applying for Alberta ESRD Fireranger positions.
  • Please due not attempt to register for these dates if you are not applying to the Alberta ESRD program..

9) What happens if I fail the WFX-FIT Test?
  • The signing CEP will review and explain your test results. If you fail the test, you should contact your OMNR supervisor and discuss your test results and options.

10) Am I able to use my Alberta results when applying to Ontario?
  • No, unfortunately your results are only valid for 90 days. You must start your contract within 90 days of taking the WFX-FIT. Because our Alberta testing is traditionally held during the first week of January, results from Alberta test sessions will have expired prior to the start of most Ontario Firerangers contract start dates.

11) Will I have to pay again for a second attempt of the WFX-FIT Test?

  • It is CWF-Fitness Testing policy to offer a 50% discount for a test candidates 2nd attempt if they have either failed or scored a Provincial Standard score on their 1st attempt.
  • The test candidates 2nd attempt must occur before March 31st, 2014 and is not applicable to persons that have attended the Alberta ESRD Test sessions.

12) I’m out of the province until May, will I be able to obtain my WFX-FIT Test prior to starting my MNR Contract?
  • Depends…if you leave it to the very end, you may have a problem obtaining your WFX-FIT Test. We cannot be in multiple locations simultaneously. We intend to offer additional testing in April and May across the province for late SP100 and returning out of province students as well as re-testing sessions for individuals wishing to improve their scores. These dates will not be posted until March based upon demand. Private testing is available in the Sudbury region but different fees apply.

13) As a new recruit, am I able to be hired without a successful WFX-FIT Test?
  • A successful WFX-FIT result is one of the mandatory requirements for hire as an OMNR FireRanger. Visit the OMNR website for updated information on qualifications for an Ontario FireRanger.

14) What if I lose my WFX-FIT Results?
  • Your results and receipt are issued at your test session.
  • They are your responsibility and you are required to submit the originals to your respective manager at the start of your employment. We strongly suggest you make a photo copy for your own records
  • You will need to submit an on-line request for the replacement of your test results or receipt
  • An administrative fee of $25.00 will be charged to re-issue WFX-FIT results or a replacement receipt from this agency.
  • This process can take a couple of business days.

15) Who ensures that the WFX-FIT is administered fairly and consistently?
  • Test sessions are routinely and randomly audited by Ministry of Natural Resources auditors that ensure test integrity and guidelines are followed.

16) How do I book a Private Test session?
  • You must still submit your registration request using the on-line procedures.
  • You will be contacted to determine an appropriate date that fits your schedule.
  • Private test sessions are conducted outdoors at the Hanmer test site,
  • Keep in mind that testing outdoors is restricted if the weather does not cooperate and may have to be rescheduled if precipitation is likely on the day of the test.
